[Class 38 (i).] A coupling of the type having alternative sets of pins 5, 10 mounted on a reversible base 2 having a lateral entry for leads 18, is provided with an adjustment for both sets of pins by passing the interconnecting shanks 6 through elongated holes 7 in the base 2. The spacing of the sets of pins may be different, those of one set being mounted on bosses 12, flat-sided to fit guiding slots 11, the other pins being screwed directly to the shanks 6 and entering a series of seatings 14 to give a positive location. A cap 46 covers the pins not in use, the fixing screw 47 for which may be inverted so that it is not accessible when the plug is in the socket. The leads are anchored by a plate fitting a recess in the base 2 and wedging the leads apart in the recess. A fuse 24, Fig. 7, may be introduced in one or both poles, one end of the fuse fitting into a cup 27 on a terminal 28 for the lead, and the other end engaging a contact 34 attached to a plate 35 lining the bottom of the slot 11. A switch 37 may also be incorporated comprising fixed contacts 40, 41 into which moves a sliding bridging contact 38 associated with a resilient pivoted arm 45 to give a snap action. An adapter having sockets at one end to fit the pins and a plug at the other end to fit a lampholder may be used in conjunction with the device. The invention may also be used in a branching connector 54, Fig. 11. The two sets of pins 65, 67 project oppositely from the body 57 of the connector through curved slots 69 which may be associated with locating seatings 70, 71. The pins of one pole are connected together by an arm 64 pivoted at 63 to a strip 61 that connects with one of each pair of sockets 58, 59.
