Abstract
527,120. Two-part couplings. BRITISH MECHANICAL PRODUCTIONS, Ltd., and DEAKIN, S. T. March 31,.1939, No. 10164. [Class 38 (i)] A socket contact of the type having two or more zones that are displaced out of alignment so as to grip resiliently a plug that on being inserted align: the zones has the zone! formed as tubular sections 2 resiliently attached to terminal member 1 by separate bridging parts 3 so that the relative movement of the zones takes place about an axis parallel to that of the inserted plug and preferably lying outside the contact surfaces. A bar having a cross-section corresponding to the outline 1, 2 of the contact, is drilled with holes 4, 5 and the contact is then cut from the end. It is cut by one or more slits 8 that extend through the socket 2 and bridge-part 3. The slits may be at right angles to or oblique to the axis of the socket. A part of the bar may be turned down to form. a fixing boss 7 with an extension 18 that can be riveted over a washer at the back of an insulating base. The boss 7 may be formed on the bottom of the socket 2. The parts of the slit socket are then given a permanent set out of alignment. Several sockets so constructed may be mounted together to form a socket fitting, for use with a two or three pin plug. A similar socket with a closure at one end may receive the end of a cartridge fuse.
