408,037. Centreless grinding machines. DUDGEON, H. A., 201, Warwick Road, Kenilworth, Warwickshire. Oct. 26, 1932, No. 29902. [Class 60.] In centreless grinding machines for grinding pins, rollers, tubes and the like, of the type in which the work is fed between the sides of revolving feeding and grinding wheels a, b, the spindle of one of the wheels is inclined in both elevation and plan relatively to the other, and in such manner that the rotational centres of the operating faces of the two wheels are at different heights. In the construction shown, the feed wheel spindle inclines downwardly and rearwardly towards the grinding wheel, the horizontal line of contact of the work-piece c, supported on the rest c<1>, with the feed wheel a being above the centre of the feed wheel and below the centre of the grinding wheel, so that if the wheels rotate in opposite senses they both tend to feed the work in the same direction. One or both of the heads carrying the wheels may be vertically adjustable, the construction shown being provided with a wedge block h below the feed wheel head for this purpose. A construction is also illustrated in which the feed wheel spindle inclines upwardly and rearwardly towards the grinding wheel.
