354,498. Centreless grinding. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Stock & Co., Spiralbohrer- Werkzeug-und Maschinenfabrik Akt.-Ges., R. ; Marienfelde, Berlin.) June 26, 1930, No. 19431. [Class 60.] A centreless grinding machine, particularly for grinding conical rollers has a cylindrical grinding- wheel and an opposed regulating wheel d, and the latter is moved together with the work rest b in the direction f of the line of grinding contact, the grinding wheel axis m being inclined so that the work is held constantly against an abutment l on the work rest during operation. The regulating wheel and the work support are mounted on a slide g which moves on guides h and the regulating wheel is set according to the conicity of the work by means of bolts q passing through arcuate slots p. The regulating wheel is preferably made of metal. The transverse axis n about which the grinding wheel is tilted is preferably located near the front face of the wheel so that the grinding throat may be adjusted so that it enlarges gradually towards the entering end and the work is engaged gradually with the grinding disc. In operation, the work c is placed in position against the abutment i and the slide g is traversed from the position shown in Fig. 5 to the position shown in Fig. 4. The slide g is then returned and a fresh piece-of work placed in position. If desired the work may be ground during the return stroke, the inclination of the.grinding disc being in this case automatically reversed.
