440,389. Grinding taper and fluted work. HARLEY, S. J., Long Bend, Old Leamington Road, Stivichall, and COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO., Ltd., Earlsdon, both in Coventry. March 21, 1934, No. 32719/35. Divided out of 440,255. [Class 60] In a grinding-machine in whichthework-holding means are carried on a slide by which the work is traversed past the grinding wheel, the work-heads are carried by a table 7 which is mounted in bearings on the slide 3 so that it may rock about a longitudinal axis to move the work to and from the wheel, and means are provided to rock it so as to grind both taper and fluted work. For grinding fluted work, such as for relieving taps, the table 7 is rocked by a cam 13 carried by the work-head and rotated by a train of change wheels. The cam bears upon a roller 16 mounted on a vertical bar 17 slidable in guides 18 on the front of the slide 3. A pivoted shoe 19 on the lower end of the bar rests on a " sine-bar " 20 which may be angularly adjusted about a pivot 21 in order that as the bar 17 traverses with the table 3 it may be moved vertically and so gradually tilt the table 7 to grind tapered work.
