434,786. Grinding. SCHLEIFSCHEIBENFABRIK DRESDEN - REICK AKT.- GES., Dresden, and KRUPP AKT.-GES., F., Essen, both in Germany. Dec. 1, 1933, No. 33840. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 21, 1934]. [Class 60] Hard cutting metals, for example, highspeed steel and carbides, borides, silicides and nitrides with or without cobalt, are ground at wheel-surface speeds of from 1À5 to 15 metres per second. The tool 11 to be ground is mounted in a head 12 angularly adjustable in a bearing 10, which is adjustable on a slide rest 9 on the machine bed. The tool is ground by a wheel 8 driven, through worm and chain gearing 6, 5, 3, by a motor 1, and the speed of the wheel 8 is varied by the use of chain wheels of selected diameters.
