Abstract
437,172. Shaping grinding- wheels. GEAR GRINDING CO., Ltd., and ORCUTT, A. H., Anne Road, Handsworth, Birming- ham. April 11, 1935, No. 11217. [Classes 60 and 124] Apparatus for trimming formed grinding-wheels for grinding gear teeth comprises two diamond &c. tools a, one for each side surface of the wheel, each mounted in a holder c at one end of a spindle d. The spindles are each rotatably mounted in a bearing e movable about a pivot g at right-angles to the axis of the spindle, and at the other end, each spindle is supported in a bearing i slidable in a guide j in the body k of the apparatus. Each spindle has secured thereto a lever h provided with an adiustable feeler l carrying a ball &c. tip m contacting with a templet n adjustable by a screw p and nuts q on the body k, and motion is imparted to the spindles d by a slide r connected to the levers h by links v, the slide being moved vertically by a lever s and a link u. The links v are acted on by springs w, so that as the levers h are oscillated, they art also, by the action of the templets, moved with their bearings i along the guide j. The periphery of the wheel is trimmed by a diamond 2 carried by a short lever 3 movable by hand about a vertical pivot 4.
