[Class 60] In a machine for grinding curved &c. surfaces, for example, the ball track in a bearing race c, the contoured grinding-wheel d is trued by a diamond tool k moved under control of a template o. The tool k is carried by a plunger m slidable in a slide and retracted by a spring n, the slide being adjustable, transversely of the machine on a slide g, which also is movable transversely, on a slide f, in one direction by a hydraulic plunger h and in the reverse direction by a spring i ; the slide f is adjustably secured to the work-table a which slides on the machine bed to carry the work-piece e up to the grinding- wheel d. On the slide is mounted, for movement parallel to that of the table a, a slide p, urged in one direction by a spring q and carrying the template o, which is engaged by the rear end m<1> of the plunger m. In operation, as the table a approaches the wheel trueing position, the slide g is moved forward by the plunger h to engage a micrometer stop u on the slide f, and the slide p engages a stop s on the grinding-head t. The continued movement of the table a then moves the part m<1> over the template, thus causing in-and-out movement of the diamond to shape the wheel d, until, when trueing is completed, the slide f is moved rearwards, thus also disengaging the slide p from the stop s.
