Abstract

1349864 Grinding NIPKIMMI 18 May 1971 15646/71 Heading B3D A multi-spindle surface grinding machine comprises a device 14 having means 13 for setting a workpiece 28 in a set position with respect to a reference surface of the workpiece in a working surface P of the device, and means 23 for clamping the workpiece in the set position, the setting means being retractable so that, in operation, the reference surface may be ground. As described, the machine has a bed 1 on which are two columns 4, 12. Column 4 has a horizontal guideway 6, along which is movable a slide block 7 having a vertical guideway for the carriage 8 of a grinding wheel, and a vertical guideway 22 along which is movable a slide block 21 having a horizontal guideway for the carriage 20 of a second grinding wheel. Column 12 is similarly provided with horizontal and vertical guideways 11, 18 for slide blocks 10, 19 having guideways for carriages 9, 16 for third and fourth grinding wheels. The grinding wheels may be moved manually or by hydromechanical or electromechanical automatic means to effect synchronized radial feeding. A table 2 is movable by hydraulic means 17 on the bed 1 and at one end carries a dressing device 3 having dressing, diamonds 3a, 3b. The device 14 is mounted on the table and has a body 14a formed with an inclined working surface P and a rear surface K. A piston-and-cylinder device 15 is mounted on the rear surface for advancing the setting means 13 to an operative position so that the workpiece can be set on the working surface P, the workpiece then being clamped in position by a piston-and-cylinder device 24 rocking the clamping means 23 about a pivot 25 so that a part 23a engages and clamps the workpiece. Thereafter the device 15 is actuated to retract the setting means 13 so that when the table is traversed, the grinding wheels grind four surfaces (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) on the workpiece. A plurality of clamping means 23 operated by respective devices 24 may be provided for clamping a number of workpieces.
