Abstract

212,691. Andrew, C. D., and Armstrong, Whitworth, & Co., Ltd., Sir W. G. Jan. 18, 1923. Boring and turning mills.-A vertical boring and turning mill such as is used in the production of tyres for railway wagons &c. is provided with means whereby the feed of the boring-tools causes the simultaneous feed of tools for performing recessing or radiusing operations. A supplementary cross-slide a vertically adjustable by a screw b is secured to pillars c carrying the usual main cross-slide d and is provided with tool slides g, h carrying respectively a roughing tool i and a finishing tool j for recessing. Cam grooves k, m in the slides g, h are engaged by rollers on the holders p, q of the roughing and finishing boring tools r, s respectively. Thus during the operation of the boring-tools the rollers enter the inclined portions of the cam grooves k, m to impart outward feed to the recessing-tools. Radiusing tools may also be mounted on the slides g, h and actuated in a similar manner.
