Abstract
404,056. Screw pumps. DOES DE BIJE, A. J. M. A. VAN DER, 181, Meerdervoort The Hague. July 28, 1932, No. 21285. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1931. [Class 110 (ii).] A screw pump for gases or vapours is provided with a liquid sealing and cooling medium which is fed from the pressure chamber 19 through passages 15, 16, to the bottoms of the grooves. Left-handed and right-handed screws 11, 13, operate together and similar rotors 13, 14, are fixed to the other ends of the shafts 9, 10, for balancing purposes. Liquid is supplied in the pressure chamber 19 to the level 20 and may leak back to one of the suction ports 2 up to a level 21 after which the screw pump picks up surplus liquid and restores it to the pressure chamber. The amount of liquid in the grooves may increase from the suction sides towards the chamber 19 to secure increased compression, which is approximately isothermal, of the gas. In a modification the channels for the liquid are cut in the casing walls, and the liquid may be sprayed on to the rotors. Where steam or vapour is being pumped, condensation water may act as the liquid medium.
