[Class 110 (ii)] A rotary compressor or pump comprises a rotary drum 3 in a stationary casing 2, two piston blades 14, 15 secured to shafts 17, 18, which rotate with the drum and also have relative motion as shown by the arrows Y, Z, and two partitions 22, 23 arranged between the blades. Packing 10, 11, 12 define the limits of suction and delivery chambers 6, 7 respectively. During rotation of the drum, fluid is sucked into a port 20 as the blade 14 moves from the partition 22, and fluid contained in the chamber 3b is delivered into the space 7 after the port 21 has passed packing 12. Fig. 4 shows an eccentric guide ring 30 upon which run rollers 31 of a slide block 28. Pinions 24, 25, on the shafts 17, 18, engage racks 26, 27, so that the sliding motion of the block causes the pinions to turn in opposite directions. Rollers 32 are provided in the slide 29 which is integral with the drum 3. A multi-stage compressor may be arranged on one shaft. The pressures in the compression chamber 3b and the chamber 7 are equal when these chambers are put into communication with each other. The partitions 22, 23 extend to the end faces of the drum 3. Water cooling jackets are provided to secure isothermal compression.
