Abstract

791,780. Rotary compressors and pumps. NICHOLS, T. W. Jan. 23, 1957 [Dec. 6, 1955], No. 34932/55. Class 110 (2). The compressor or pump, of the outwardlysliding vane type, is provided with metal plates 6 at each end of the working chamber, outside which are oil chambers 10, the oil being used for sealing and cooling purposes. A jointing ring 8 may be used at each end, or the pump end walls 7 may be recessed to contain the oil. The oil is fed, under pump delivery pressure, through holes 11 in the plates 6 and also sprayed through clusters of holes 13. In Fig. 2, the oil is supplied through an inlet 14 to a stuffing-box 16, then through bearings 17, of any type, into the chamber 10, through a hole 15 and holes 11, 13 into the working chamber. Grooves 5 are formed in the ends of the rotor.
