Abstract
403,017. Supplying air to furnaces. LUKS, R. E., 139, Boulevard St. Germain, Paris. May 27, 1933, No. 15409. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1933. [Class 51 (i).] In apparatus for supplying heated air to a furnace comprising a header 8 above the firebridge 1 and if desired at the sides of the furnace, the header or each header being adapted to discharge approximately equal quantities of air from a number of lateral orifices 16<1>, 16<2>, 16<3> .. of equal area, the sectional area of the air passage in the header diminishes from the inlet end and the outer edges 14 of curved elbow branches 13<1>, 13<2>, 13<3> .. leading to the orifices project into the air passage to ensure an equal distribution of the air. The header 8 comprises two parts, an external part 9 preferably of metal and serving to preheat the air and an internal part 10 preferably of refractory material provided with the outlet orifices 16<1>, 16<2>, 163 ... The external part is itself in two sections 9<1>, 9<2>, connected by a sleeve 11, the parts 9 and 10 being connected by plug and socket joints and by screws 29. The decrease in sectional area of the air passage is shown at S', S2, S<3> ... In order to direct the air on to the fuel on the grate 3, the orifices are downwardly inclined. An air-pressure gauge 27 and a resistance 28 controlling the motor 5 of the supply fan 4 are mounted on the front of the furnace.
