[Class 100 (iv).] In ink-ribbon mechanism particularly for use in duplicating-arrangements for typewriters, of the kind described in Specification 402,484, the spool-brakes co-operate with the peripheries of members on the spools. The members may co-operate also with spool-locking means of the kind described in Specification 402,492. The manifolding-attachment for typewriters shown in Figs. 2 and 5 comprises, as described in the above-mentioned Specification 402,484, feeding-means for a number of ribbons M which are guided along the printing line and are interleaved with webs, the platen-carriage B being provided with a hand-lever for operating the ribbon-feeding and the line-spacing means. The ribbon spools L are mounted on a shaft 9 fixed at the front to a frame K which is connected to the platen-carriage and is provided with rollers 7 running on a rail 8.. Discs 17 forming part of the spools have serrated peripheries co-operating with serrated locking- dogs 41a, and brakes consisting of serrated rollers 34. Each roller has a hub 32, Fig. 9, mounted in a double bell-crank O and frictionally retarded by means of a spring 36a which engages the dished end 35 of the hub and presses the roller into contact with one side of the bell-crank. The bell-cranks are mounted on a rod 22 and are connected to springs 38 which normally hold the rollers in engagement with the discs. The locking-dogs are formed on bell-cranks P which are mounted on the rod 22 and are connected to the springs 38. The locking-dogs are normally held in disengaged position by a universal bar 46 forming part of a frame 48 which can rock on the rod 22 and is connected to a spring 49. The line-spacing and ribbon-feeding lever is connected by linkage 54, 55 to a bell-crank 51 which is connected by a link 52 to the frame 48. Before completion of the ribbon-feeding movement, the universal bar releases the bell-cranks P, and the locking- dogs are moved into engagement with the spools, the remainder of the ribbon-feeding movement being effective to remove slack from the ribbons. The locking and braking devices are arranged in a detachable housing 23 having slots 24, 25 for the rollers 34 and dogs 41a, and spring sides 23a, 23b for engaging flanges 14a on the frame K, the side 23b having a curved edge 23c. To permit of removal of the spools, the dogs 41a and rollers 34 are depressed into the housing by rocking a shaft 44 having flats engaging lugs 26, 45 on the bell-cranks O, P. The shaft 44 is rocked by means of a hand-lever 59 having an opening which normally receives the reduced end 62 of the shaft 9, and is locked by a spring-plunger 63.
