[Class 100 (iv).] In ink-ribbon mechanism mechanism particularly for use in duplicating-arrangements for typewriters, of the kind described in Specification 402,484, the spool-locking means cooperate with the peripheries of members connected to the spools. The spools may cooperate also with brakes, preferably consisting of spring- urged plungers mounted in the spool-shaft. The manifolding- attachment for typewriters shown in Figs. 5 and 9 comprises, as described in the abovementioned Specification, feeding-means for a number of ribbons M which are guided along the printing line and are interleaved with webs, the platencarriage being provided with a hand-lever for operating the ribbon-feeding and the line-spacing means. The ribbon spools L are mounted on a shaft 9 fixed at the front to a frame K which is connected to the platencarriage and is provided with a roller 7 running on a rail 8. Discs 17 forming part of the spools have serrated peripheries 18 for cooperating with serrated locking-dogs 30a formed on arms P which can rock on a rod 26 on the frame K and are urged towards the spools by springs 32. The locking-dogs are normally held in disengaged position by a universal bar 35 forming part of a frame 33 which can rock on the rod 26 and is connected to a spring 37. The springs 32 are connected to the arms P and a bar 36 on the frame 33. The line-spacing and ribbon-feeding lever is connected by linkage 45, 43 to a bell-crank 38 which is connected by a link 41 to the frame 33. Before completion of the ribbon-feeding movement, the universal bar releases the arms P, and the locking-dogs are moved into engagement with the spools, the remainder of the ribbon-feeding movement being effective to remove slack from the ribbons. The spools are braked by spring-urged plungers 23 which are mounted in the shaft 9 and engage annular grooves 24 in the spool-hubs 16. To permit of removal of the spools, the plungers are retracted by means of a shaft 47 which is mounted in the shaft 9 and has a shoulder 49 for engaging shoulders 48 on the plungers. The shaft 47 is rocked by means of a hand-lever 55 secured to a shaft 54 which is connected by an arm 53 and link 52 to a bell-crank 50 on the shaft 47. The hand-lever has an opening which normally receives a projection 57 on the shaft 9. The hand-lever is locked in normal position by a spring-plunger which is releasable by means of a finger-lever 58 pivoted on the hand-lever. The locking-devices are arranged in a detachable housing 27 having slots 28 for the locking-dogs, and spring sides 27a, 27b for engaging flanges 14a on the frame K, the side 27b being formed with a curved edge 27c. The cores 19 of the ribbons are coupled to the spool-hubs 16 by means of springs which are attached at one end to the hubs and rest on flats thereon.
