Web-feeding arrangements. - A web-winding roller for typewriting, tabulating, and like machines has free-wheel engagement with a spring pulley actuated by the machine, a knob being provided for turning the winding-roller independently of the spring pulley. The winding- roller R, Fig. 2, is connected at one end by a pin 20 to a disc 19 on shaft P provided with a knob 3<a>, the other end of the winding-roller engaging another knob which is carried by a spring pin. A loose pulley 11 carries a ratchetwheel 12 engaging a pawl 13 on a fast disc 14 which carries a ratchet-wheel 17 engaging a detent 18 on the framework, the ratchet-wheels having oppositely-directed teeth. A coiled spring 7 is connected at one end to a fixed sleeve 6, and at the other end to a loose drum 8 having ears 9 engaging the drum. A tape T on the drum is connected to an oscillating lever and is effective at each actuation to tension and release the spring, the winding-roller being turned by the spring when released. As applied to tabulating- machines such as are described in Specification 26896/13 having the web-feeding mechanism described in Specifications 328,282 and 328,413, the tape may be connected to a reciprocating link which is actuated on total-taking or after a predetermined number of operations of the machine. As applied to typewriters, the tape may be connected to a bell-crank in the path of the carriage.
