Ink-ribbon mechanism.-In an ink-ribbon mechanism particularly applicable to portable typewriters, the spool shafts, driving-shaft, and reversing-mechanism are mounted on a pair of brackets secured to the type-lever segment; a pawl and detent co-operating with a ratchetwheel on the driving-shaft may be guided by the key-lever guide or comb. Brackets 4 secured to the type-lever segment B have lugs 2, 3 supporting the spool shafts 1, and lugs 9 supporting a driving-shaft 8. A pawl 11 actuating a ratchetwheel 10 on the driving-shaft is guided by the key-lever comb 20, the pawl being connected to one of the arms 14 carrying a universal bar 16 operated by the key-levers 17. A detent 22 is mounted on the key-lever shaft 19 and is guided by the comb 20. The driving-shaft is provided with bevel-wheels 6, 7 for driving bevel-wheels 5 on the spool shafts, and is moved longitudinally to reverse the feed by knobs 45, or automatically by the following devices : Each spool E is associated with a ribbon guide 29 mounted on a member 31 on the bracket 4 and connected to a bell-crank 34 whish is pivoted to a lug on the bracket. A slide 40 having a tooth 43 for engaging a worm-wheel 44 on the driving-shaft passes through a guide 42 on the framework and is connected by a spring 41 to a pin 38 on the bell-crank, the pin working in a slot 39 in the slide. When the ribbon has been wound off either spool, a button 30 moves the associated guide and the tooth 43 is raised into engagement with the worm-wheel, the driving-shaft thereupon moving longitudinally to reverse the feed. A snap action is effected by means of a spring-urged lever 24 co-operating with a V-grooved collar 23 on the driving-shaft. The lever is pivoted to the lug 9 and is connected to a spring 27.
