Abstract

<PICT:0402172/III/1> In the hot-water purification of used lubricating oil, jets of steam or steam and hot water and jets of oil from concentric sprayers are made to impinge within a mass of water. For example, water is admitted through a pipe b to a tank a to the level of the overflow pipe c, steam is admitted at boiler pressure through pipes o, d, d<1>, and sprayer h until the water is at 180 DEG F., and then used-oil from ships' Diesel engines is forced at 9 lb. pressure through a pipe f and a sprayer g; the jets impinge, and the washed oil rises through the agitated mass of water until it overflows through the pipe c to a centrifugal separator. The sprayer rings h, g may be of various sizes and shapes, and may be adjusted vertically by threaded sleeves o; they are spaced by radial members integrally or otherwise formed thereon.
