Abstract

161,620. Stockholder, J. Dec. 3, 191'J. Blow - down apparatus; scum apparatus; sediment collectors.-Apparatus for removing scum and mud from a boiler comprises a bottom perforated pipe 15, vertical pipes 17 connected to the ends of the bottom pipe, and an upper pipe 10 -connected to the vertical pipes and carrying scumcollecting funnels 12, which are maintained at the surface of the water by means of floats 11 attached to the upper pipe. Telescopic joints 19 in the vertical pipes allow the upper pipe to move up and down with the changing water-level. The position of the pipe 10 is indicated by a pointer 25 on the end of a racking lever engaging with the pipe. Scum and mud is discharged from the 'bottom pipe through a pipe 29 connected to a perforated pipe 31 in the mud drain 2. The pipe 31 discharges into the outlet pipe 4. The scumcollecting funnels are formed with internal ribs forming helical passages for the blown down water.
