Abstract
<PICT:0346523/III/1> In a process and apparatus for the deaeration of boiler feed-water, the water, preferably preheated, passes from an inlet 11 through a distributor plate 5, trickles as a thin film over packing 2, in a cylindrical tower 1, and is de-aerated under the reduced pressure created by a steam-injector 10 at the top of the tower; it collects in a sump 3 from which it is removed by a centrifugal or like pump 13. A drain 15 is provided to empty the sump completely when desired, and a steam inlet 16 is provided to increase the temperature of the feedwater where necessary. Cold water may be introduced through inlet 8 to condense any steam or water vapour passing into the head 7. Specification 225,639, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], is referred to.
