Abstract
401,942. Metal &c. heating furnaces. LUCAS, E. E., Mount Works, Wharton Street, Nechells, Birmingham. March 11, 1933, No. 7418. [Class 51 (ii).] In a metal &c. heating furnace of the kind in which a downwardly flowing stream of combustion products is caused to flow across the open side 6 of a semi-muffle 4, the stream is more positively directed by the provision of a baffle or deflector such as the depending lip 10 across the upper edge of the opening. The lower edge of the baffle is preferably at the same level as the upper edge 7a of the door opening. In addition the edge 12 of the floor of the muffle may be chamfered as shown. The burner passages 3a extend across the downtake 5 and are situated immediately below the floor of the muffle. A modification is described in which the gases are taken off through lateral openings and side uptakes instead of through the bottom flue 9.
