Abstract

<PICT:0401732/IV/1> <PICT:0401732/IV/2> <PICT:0401732/IV/3> A sheet - metal spinning-jet for the production of artificial filaments, yarns, threads, or the like is provided with lines of increased thickness over areas not occupied by spinning orifices, so as to reinforce the face of the jet. The thickened portions may take the form of radial ribs. If desired, circles of thickened metal concentric with the jet face may be formed in addition to the radial ribs. The ribs may terminate in a circle or boss within the circle of orifices. Thickening of the sheet metal may be effected by stamping or pressing before the operation of boring the orifices. The construction enables jets of large area to withstand the high pressures employed when spinning with very fine extrusion orifices. It is applicable to coagulation methods as employed in the production of viscose or cuprammonium threads, or to evaporative methods as employed in the production of cellulose acetate or other cellulose organic derivative threads. As shown in Fig. 1, a pipe 7 for the supply of spinning solution screws into a connecting piece 8 having a machined face 10 against which a filter 12 and sheet metal jet 13 are secured by a nut 11. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the jet has a flange 14 and a face 15 containing two concentric circles of orifices 16, 17. The thickened portions of the jet comprise a boss 18 with four radial ribs 19, and a circle 20 concentric with the face 15 and running into the ribs 19. The ribs divide each circle of orifices 16, 17 into quadrants, no orifices being bored through the thickened metal of the ribs.
