Abstract

In manufacturing artificial threads, fibres, and like materials from cellulose solutions, e.g. viscose, the freshly spun material is laid continuously on a flat support, rotating about a vertical or slightly inclined axis, in a form which substantially fills the surface of the support, e.g. in a zigzag form, is subjected on the support to after-treatment and is then continuously removed before it can form a <PICT:0475350/IV/1> <PICT:0475350/IV/2> second layer. Threads are laid in the annular space between rims a and b on a plate C slowly rotating, e.g. once per minute, on a shaft C<1>. Treatment liquid is supplied by sprinklers D and flows away through perforations c, d, to a receiver F or suction device G, a separate one of which is provided for each liquid. The threads are pressed by rollers W irrigated by sprinklers to prevent sticking of the threads thereto. For treatments with gases or vapours a housing H is provided for the apparatus with inlet K and outer J. A series of plates may be provided the thread being led from one to another and subjected to successive treatments thereon. The hollow space on the plate may serve as a bath through which liquid flows continuously or to which chemical is added as it is used up. Cut fibres may be laid on the plate by a depositing device, treated, and removed by a lifting device.
