Abstract

294,279. Courtaulds, Ltd., Hegran, H. J., and Hazeley, E. April 21, 1927. Treating substances with liquids.-For the treatment of cakes of artificial silk with washing, dyeing, soaping. &c. liquids while the cakes are being rapidly dried in the centrifugal boxes, in which they have been formed or in other boxes to which they have been transferred, the cakes are supported in the boxes in such a manner that there is provided for the escape of liquid a passage between the cakes and the portions of the boxes on which they rest. Thus, the base of the box may have a knurled or pyramidal surface or there may be interposed between the cake and the base of the box a layer of pervious material such as wire gauze, thick cloth or corrugated material, or a disc of ebonite formed on the underside with studs, or a plate K covered with small pyramids formed by pressing or machining. The spray pipe L provided with one or more nozzles of the fish-tail type, may be reciprocated vertically during the washing &c. operation. The wall of the box is perforated preferably with a number - of small holes N.
