Abstract

543,537. Artificial silk. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH. Aug. 28, 1940, No. 13556. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1939. Drawings to Specification. [Class 2 (ii)] Artificial silk, e.g. viscose silk, is produced by a continuous wet spinning process in which the threads are spun, passed through a bath of dilute acid and stretched by 40-80 per cent. during passage therethrough, treated with one or more liquids, dried and finally twisted, and while being treated with the liquids are passed side by side but separate from one another in contact with a series of rollers, some or all of which have circumferential grooves in planes perpendicular to the axis of the roller and some, at least, of the rollers being driven and the threads lying in contact with each roller over less than the whole circumference of the groove. The grooves may be arranged 3-5 m.m. apart, have a depth of about 1.5 m.m., and slightly rounded edges. Specifications 16,495/07, [Class 2], 211,446, [Class 15 (ii)], 391,782, 507,782 and German Specification 235,134 are referred to.
