Abstract
In the production of artificial horsehair and like structures wholly or partly from cellulose or cellulose derivatives, particularly viscose, by the use of precipitating baths, the horsehair &c. is conducted from a long precipitating bath around a delivery roller having an horizontal axis and, by means of a reciprocating guide or guides associated with the <PICT:0361244/IV/1> <PICT:0361244/IV/2> <PICT:0361244/IV/3> roller, is delivered to a slowly-rotating can or plate to form a cake. As shown, the thread from the nozzle traverses a long acid-salt bath 3 to a thread-guide 4 from which it passes to a thread-guide 5 carried by a reciprocating rod 6 and then around a wide delivery roller 7 from which it drops into a slowly-rotating pot 9 where it is fixed by a spray 14. The rod 6 carries a second guide 8 engaging a loop of the thread, and the reciprocating of p the guides causes the delivery run of the thread to swing radially of the pot 9 forming a cake 10, Fig. 2. The pot 9 is detachably supported on a plate 11 having a dished surface and a hollow spindle 13 for the exit of treating liquid which passes through the perforated base 12 of the pot 9. For washing the cakes, the pots 9, Fig. 3, are placed one above another in a frame 15 with a finely-perforated distributing plate 16 over each pot. Treating liquid is supplied through a pipe 17 and the pots are progressively moved upwards during treatment. The invention is applicable to threads of cotton, wool, artificial silk, &c. impregnated or coated with cellulose or cellulose derivative, the thread being passed from a spool &c. through a solution of cellulose or cellulose derivative and then through the coagulating bath.
