Abstract

501,495. Viscose; artificial silk, films, &c. SCHLESISCHE ZELLWOLLE AKT.-CES. June 20, 1938, No. 18301. Convention date, June 19, 1937. [Class 2 (ii)] Carbon disulphide is caused to act on alkali cellulose in the presence of a higher fatty alcohol, that is, a monohydric aliphatic alcohol immiscible with or insoluble in water, e.g., lauryl, stearyl or oleyl alcohol. The xanthogenate furnishes a thinner viscose, so that the ripening of the alkali cellulose may be shortened or dispensed with. Filaments, foils and other shaped structures may be made from the viscose. In the case of artificial silk and cellulose wool, the products have a good feel and show both spiral curling and irregularities on the surface. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the use of castor oil and pine oil instead of the higher fatty alcohol. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
