Abstract
<PICT:0402450/IV/1> <PICT:0402450/IV/2> <PICT:0402450/IV/3> <PICT:0402450/IV/4> <PICT:0402450/IV/5> A spinning-jet for the production of artificial filaments, threads, yarns, or the like comprises a relatively thick metal face which is pierced so as to form spinning orifices, and which is made thinner at the points where the spinning orifices are located so that the length of the orifices is less than the general thickness of the metal face. Recesses may be formed in the metal of the jet face by stamping. The jet face may be flat, but for greater strength it is made concave or convex. The orifices may be bored perpendicular to the jet face before it is bulged, or they may be bored parallel to the axis of the jet after bulging of the jet face. As shown in Fig. 2, the upper side of the jet face is provided with bowl-shaped depressions 17 through the bottoms of which the spinning orifices 15 are bored. The outer face of the jet remains smooth so that the operation of jet wiping at commencement of spinning is not hindered. As shown in Fig. 3, the orifices 15 are bored from the apices of conical depressions 18 formed in the upper side of the jet face by countersinking with a pointed tool. As shown in Fig. 4, the orifices 15 are bored from depressions 16 in a convex jet face 20. The orifices 15 are preferably bored after the jet face has been brought into its convex shape in order that they may be parallel to each other, and be situated at the lowest point of the depressions. The depressions may be bowl-shaped or conical as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. The device may be employed in dry or wet spinning processes and particularly in the dry spinning of cellulose acetate. Specification 402,449 is referred to.
