Abstract
400,470. Cooling cylinders. YACCO, S. A. F., 44, Avenue de la Grande ArmÚe, Paris. Jan. 26, 1933, Nos. 2519, 2520, and 2521. Convention dates, Feb. 17, 1932, June 10, 1932, and Oct. 24, 1932. [Class 7 (ii).] Undue cooling of the front of air-cooled cylinders is prevented by arranging the air entry ports c, in a surrounding casing a, in line with the spaces between adjacent cylinders the supply is controlled by a hit-and-miss valve d, and deflecting baffles h extend to outlet ports h at the rear of the cylinders. These ports may be triangular and arranged with their bases adjacent the heads ; the valve d is adjusted, either automatically, by a thermostat placed near the bases of the cylinders, or in. the lubricating oil in the crank-case, or at the air outlet, or by hand, through a Bowden control. Fig. 9 shows, in plan, an arrangement of casing for a single cylinder engine, air, entering at C, D, and valve-controlled ports g, being caused by baffles g<2>, r to circulate round the cylinder. In a further modification a single central port g is placed in front of a baffle g<2>. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement similar to that shown in Fig. 1, but having valvecontrolled ports c in line with the cylinders which are protected by adjustable baffles ; an annular exhaust pipe e extends round the bases of the cylinders to reduce the cooling action of the air. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
