Abstract

501,939. Cooling cylinders. GABRIELSON, J. B. Oct. 15, 1937, No. 28165. Convention date, Oct. 15, 1936. [Class 7 (ii)] In a multi-cylinder air-cooled engine, the cylinder heads and barrels are cooled, respectively, by air currents supplied by conduits 21, 31, the air from the conduit 31 flowing over the barrels before it reaches the exhaust passages 5, which are also cooled by air flowing from the conduit 21. Baffles 33 may be provided between adjacent exhaust passages to deflect the air which leaves by ports 18; 19, 32 extending along the engine, and by circular ports 40 at the two ends. Further air may be supplied to cool the heads by a conduit 28, baffles 27, 36 being arranged to deflect the air on to ribs 14. The conduits 21, 28, 31, which taper, are supplied by a fly-wheel fan 42.
