Abstract

463,303. Aircraft engine accessories. PARAVICINI, T. P. DE. Sept. 20, 1935, No. 26125. [Class 4] [Also in Group XIII] An oil cooler C, Fig. 1 is arranged in a tunnel A<2> in which the engine radiator A is located and in such a position that it is exposed to a stream of air which has been warmed by passage over the radiator, whereby overcooling of the oil is avoided. The oil cooler may be placed behind the radiator or between front and rear parts of a divided radiator. The air flow through the tunnel may be controlled by a hinged flap A<5> at the rear. In the case of an air-cooled engine with the cylinders in line the oil cooler may be located in the rear of the cylinder cowling, and in a radial-cylinder engine, Fig. 5, cowled in a ring H<2>, the oil cooler I occupies a position in the gap between the fuselage and the ring.
