Abstract

400,088. Stabilizing ships. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. March 31, 1933, No. 9767. Convention date, April 1, 1932. [Class 113 (i).] The anti-rolling tanks which are fitted on either side of the ship to minimise rolling are also employed to minimise pitching. The tanks 1, 2, fitted at the bow or stem of the ship are connected at the top by the conduit 4 in which is fitted a two-way cock 5 through which the pressure and suction conduits of the continuously running blower 6 is alternatively connected to the air spaces of the tanks in harmony with the roll of the ship. The conduit 4 is further provided with pipes connected to atmosphere and fitted with valves 7<1>, 8<1>. These valves are operated in accordance with the pitch of the ship and allow water to escape and enter through the opening 9 in the lower conduit 3. In a modification, anti-rolling tanks fitted at bow and stern are connected by overhead crosspipes fitted with admission valves controlled in accordance with the pitching of the ship.
