Abstract
439,175. Minimizing rolling and pitching. BAZE, W. L., 29. Rue Tronchet, Paris. May 28, 1934, No. 15857. Convention date, May 31, 1933. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 28, 1934]. [Class 113 (i)] The movement of the ship through the water is utilized to minimize rolling and pitching. To this end, a pair of conduits 19 are arranged symmetrically on either side of the central fore-and-aft line of the ship with their forward mouths facing in the direction of travel of the ship. Fluid entrained by the movement of the ship emerges at downwardly directed jets at the aft ends of the conduits. Valves operated by pendulum &c. devices in accordance with the roll of the ship alternately close the conduits and the alternating jets thus produced tend to quench rolling. Alternately the hinged mouth pieces 22 may be in turn closed by the pendulum. Should the speed of the ship be slow a propeller or pump 27 may be employed to actuate the device. The device suitably modified may be employed to quench pitching.
