Abstract
401,878. Lifebuoys; line - towing apparatus. DUNKERLEY, G., 123, Dulwich Road, Herne Hill, London. Oct. 22, 1932, No. 29591. [Class 77.] A float A with a fixed keel B is provided with a longitudinal rail-like member C fixed relative to the float and extending on both sides of the centre of pressure of the keel and laterally displaced with respect thereto, the float being controlled by a cord F free to slip along the rail C so that if the cord is allowed to slip under tension the float moves obliquely away from the operator and if the direction of pull is reversed the cord slips to the other end of the rail and the float moves obliquely away in the other direction. The rail may be attached to the side of the float as shown, or if the float is broad may be over the deck and may for example be a taut cord attached to projecting arms on the deck. A rail D may be provided on the other side to the rail C and the keel B may be placed to one side of the centre of the float and may have its lower part inclined to form a pocket. For life-saving purposes the float may carry a lifebuoy, preferably of elongated form, or the float itself may be made largely or in part of corkwood &c. to function as a lifebuoy.
