Abstract

May 4, 1920 Lubricating; exhaust gases, discharging. - A modification of the method of introduction of gaseous fluid to the rear of the steps a of hydroplanes, as usually constructed, consists in exhaust gases from the propelling or other engines to the space in rear of such steps, to counteract or reduce the partial vacuum formed therein. The main exhaust pipe c is fitted at both ends with branch connections d, e having branches on the port and starboard sides and on the centre line of the steps. Regulating valves f, g are fitted on the main exhaust pipe and on the port and starboard branches of the pipes d, e, and may be controlled from the deck or steering position for the purpose of assisting manoeuvring. The pipes d, e may terminate in ejector nozzles, and means may be provided whereby the exhaust gases induce a flow of air into these spaces.
