Abstract

461,962. Ships' form. COCK, E. Aug. 21, 1935, No. 23468. [Class 113 (ii)] Ships have transverse frame sections so shaped that the projections of the centroids below an inclined water plane on the water plane have a locus which is either (a) a substantially straight line P approximately parallel to the fore and aft line of the ship or (b) a curve Q, the greater part of which has in the mid-ship portion a centre of curvature on the side of the ship more deeply immersed and has two points of contraflexure one between mid-ship and bows and one between midship and stern, the mean ordinate of the curve between mid-ship and bows being substantially equal to that between mid-ship and stern. Fig. 6 shows the body plan of a ship in which the lines extending to K<2>, N<2> represent the form when the bows in a straight line and the lines K<3>, N<3> show a form in which the lines produce a bow resembling the line Q in the mid-ship portion.
