Abstract
399,510. Screw-down valves. FISSLER, A., 4, The Promenade, Ilfracombe. April 6, 1932, No. 9816. [Class 135.] Lift valves ; closure members, single-beat lift. - The jumper 5 of a screw-down lift valve is recessed to form a depending rim 6 with an upwardly-arched groove 7 undercut into the rim, as shown at 8. The recess accommodates a lead or other resilient or ductile washer 10 secured by a disc 11 and nut 13 ; the disc 11 has an upwardly and inwardly tapered edge. The jumper is prevented from rotating by an internal fin in the casing which engages a slot in a rim of the jumper. In the closed position of the valve the washer 10 coacts with a raised seating rim whereby the washer is forced into the arched groove 7 and undercut 8 and against the tapered edge of the disc 11 ; at the same time the washer 10 is wedged down on both sides of the raised valve seating thereby effecting a good closure of the valve.
