398,653. Stuffing-box substitutes. CHICAGO RAWHIDE MFG. CO., 1267, Elston Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. Oct. 8, 1932, No. 28099. Convention date, March 7. [Class 122 (v).] A shaft-packing device comprises a leather ring 17 pressed on the shaft by a spring 18 and retained between two sheet-metal stampings 10, 20 secured together by the spunover edge 22 of one of them. The whole unit is adapted to be a press fit in a cylindrical housing surrounding the shaft to be packed. Specifications 289,765, [Class 122 (v), Stuffing-boxes &c.], and 396,240 are referred to.
