Abstract
398,428. Double-casement windows; draught -excluders. LEWERENTZ, S., 32, Kungsgatan, Stockholm. March 14, 1933, No. 7768. [Class 20 (iii).] The outer and inner sashes 1, 3 of a double or multiple metal casement window are spaced apart by a heat-insulating space of air and are interconnected exclusively by one or more hinges 7 or fastenings 8 whose total length forms a small fraction only of the periphery of the casement. In the form shown, the inner sashes 1, 2 are connected hy hinges 5 to the window frame which consists of two angle-bars 14, 15 separated by a heat-insulating insert 16. A flat bar 18 secured to the angle-bar 15 clamps in position a strip 19 of felt which forms an abutment for the inner sash 1 when the latter is closed. The fastenings 8 are in the form of hinges having removable pins, and the leaves of the fastenings and of the hinges are separated from the casements to which they are attached by heat-insulating material 9. Flat metal bars 10, 11 are secured to the free vertical edges of the sashes 1, 4, respectively, and are of such width as to overlap the edges of the sashes 2, 3. In a modification, a double casement window has one wing only and the two mated sashes are detachably fastened together by a screw at the edge away from the hinge 5. When the fastenings 8, or the screw in the modified form, are released, the inner and outer sashes (1, 3 or 2, 4) may be swung apart'about the hinges 7.
