Abstract

556,752. Door and window frames. WRIGHT, G. C., and GYPROC PRODUCTS, Ltd. April 16, 1942, No. 5084. [Class 20 (iii)] A sheet metal frame for a door or window consists of a pair of jambs with a head and a step or sill overlying the jambs which are made of pressed sheet steel of open channel form, each jamb 10 having a step 11, the edges being stiffened by flanges 13, 14 and the members being fastened by lugs welded to the jambs and secured in the head and step. The head 17 is of similar form, and the step 29 is a shallow channel. Limbs 19, 20 of a rectangular hoop 18 are welded to each jamb, and a rod 21 also welded to the jamb serves as a dowel, the hoops projecting through slots in the head and step in which they are held by metal keys 24, a portion 28 of a key being bent up when the portion 27 is driven into the hoop and subsequently bent down, as in Fig. 1, to retain the key in position. A door 12 is secured to the hinge jamb by a hinge 15, one limb of which is welded to the channel base. In a modification, Fig. 6, three straight lugs 31, 32, 33 are welded to the end of each jamb, and register with holes in the step or head, lug 32 being screw threaded to take a nut 37 which secures the joint, or the lugs may be grooved to take flat keys.
