Abstract
Hydrocarbons are stabilized and rendered resistant to the formation of gum and discolouration by adding a small amount of an amine salt of a hydroxy-aryl compound other than hydroxy-diaryls, in the absence of dyestuffs. For example, gasoline, benzol, benzine, cracked hydrocarbons or Diesel fuel oil is mixed with a small amount of one or more of the compounds, hydroquinone dianilide, di - butylamine a - naphtholate, the monodiethanolamine salt of catechol, the mono-o-toluidine salt of hydroquinone or the p - phenylenediamine salt of m - 4 - xylenol. Tertiary aliphatic and secondary aromatic amines may also be used in the preparation of the salts. The resulting salts may also possess anti-detonating properties.
