Abstract

Hydrocarbon motor fuel is improved by blending therewith a branched ether R.O.R.<1>. A lead-containing anti-knock agent, e.g. 1ec. of lead-tetra-ethyl or -methyl per U.S. gallon of fuel may be added. Suitably the fuel is composed of 5, 10, 15, 30, or 50 per cent of isopropyl ether, and gasoline. Other ethers specified are tertiary butyl ether, methyl tertiary butyl ether, methyl tertiary amyl ether, and ethers containing an aryl radical.
