Abstract

Motor fuel is stabilized against discoloration and gum formation by adding p-cyclohexylaminophenol. The inhibitor may be added as a solution, e.g. in methanol or benzol, or the fuel may percolate through a mass of the inhibitor. In an example, 0,001--0,006 per cent of inhibitor is added to benzol or to cracked petrol. Specification 350,438 is referred to. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the inhibitor may be a compound of the formulae HO--Ar--NHR, where Ar is a phenylene nucleus with or without alkyl substituents and R is a cyclohexyl nucleus with or without alkyl substituents. Examples Examples include: o- and m-cyclohexylaminophenols; o- and p-(2-methylcyclohexyl)-aminophenols; o-, m- and p-(4-methylcyclohexyl)-aminophenols; o- and p-(4-ethylcyclohexyl)-aminophenols; the 4-cyclohexylaminoderivatives of 2-methyl-, of 3-methyl-, of 2-ethyl-, and of 2.5-dimethylphenols; the 3-cyclohexylaminoderivatives of 5-methyl-and of 2 : 4-dimethyl phenols. The induction period of petrols containing 0,0015 per cent in each case of three of these inhibitors is compared with that of the petrol and also with that of the petrol containing the same amounts of p-benzylaminophenol. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
