Abstract

Diesel or other engine fuel is doped with a peroxide in which one of the peroxide oxygen atoms is attached to an alkyl or alkacyl radical while the other peroxide oxygen atom is attached to a hydrogen atom or to a second alkyl or alkacyl radical. Suitably, 1--2 per cent of diethyl peroxide is added to petroleum fuel oil, coal oil, or creosote. Specifications 421,928 and 428,972 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification any organic peroxide may be used; included in those specified are hydrogen peroxide and alkylidene peroxides.
