Abstract

Liquid fuel for Diesel and like engines is primed by dissolving therein one or more organic peroxides or mixtures containing such oxides, or by forming such oxides therein, no other primer being present. Fuels specified are gas oil, heavy pressure distillates, Edeleanu extract of kerosene, coal tar fractions, and vegetable oils. Suitable peroxides are obtained by passing air or oxygen, maybe in presence of catalysts, through hydrocarbons such as vapourphase cracked benzines. In examples, 0,5, 1,0, and 1,5 per cent of tetrahydronaphthalene peroxide are added to gas oil, and 5,0 per cent to Edeleanu extract of kerosene. Specifications 294,129, [Class 91], and 354,398 are referred to.
