Abstract
Gas oil is blended with a solvent extract of a lubricating oil base stock, the extract forming not more than 30% by weight of blend. The lubricating oil base stock is either a lubricating oil distillate fraction from the vacuum stage of crude petroleum distillation or a deasphalted vacuum residue of crude petroleum distillation. The solvent extract is an extract obtained using any solvent normally used for refining lubricating oils, e.g. furfural and liquid sulphur dioxide. Carbon formation on fuel injector nozzles and also sludging are said to be reduced when the blend is employed in diesel engines.
