Abstract
Aviation fuels having high anti-knock characteristics are obtained by subjecting a gasoline distillate, preferably after stabilization and de-butanization, to distillation under precision conditions as described in Specification 600,551, to recover an isopentane fraction and separate n-pentane and a residual fraction which is subjected under known conditions to solvent extraction to produce an aromatic extract containing the aromatic constituents of the distillate and a raffinate, subjecting the raffinate to precision fractionation as described in Specification 600,551 to recover isohexane and isoheptane fractions, recovering aromatic fractions from the extract, and blending the iso-pentane, -hexane and -heptane fractions and the aromatic fraction to constitute the fuel. Examples of the blended fuel are: (1) 10 per cent isopentane, 20 per cent isohexane, 50 per cent isoheptane, 20 per cent aromatics; (2) 10 per cent isopentane, 20 per cent isohexane, 40 per cent isoheptane, 30 per cent aromatics. Specifications 630,244 and 630,246 also are referred to.
