Abstract

Fuel for Diesel-type engines consists of a light Diesel oil with an addition of up to 2 per cent of an organic acid containing at least 14 carbon atoms in the molecule, to obtain improved lubrication of the pistons and cylinders. Naphthenic acids and higher fatty acids are specified; they may first be mixed with other oils. For example, to 500 kg. of 0,8 petroleum Diesel oil is added 1 kg. of commercial oleic acid or 3 kg. of 30-70 mixture of oleic acid and lubricating oil. British Specifications 130,377 and 185,796, [both in Class 91, Oils &c.], and U.S.A. Specification 1,826,439 are referred to.
