559,051. Motor fuels. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. May 12, 1942, No. 6402. Convention date, March 27, 1941. [Class 91] High anti-knock motor fuels for spark-ignition engines comprise blends of a hydrocarbon fuel base of high A.S.T.M. octane rating, i.e. of at least 65 and preferably of at least 75, with primary or secondary isobutyl or isoamyl amines in sufficient proportion to raise the octane ratings, such as at least 1 per cent. by volume and preferably 5 to 20 per cent. by volume. Leaded blends are preferred, tetraethyl lead being preferably used in the proportion of ¢ to 3c.c. per gallon. The octane rating is raised to that required for aviation fuels, i.e. 80 to 100 or higher. Other usual additives may be incorporated in the blends, such as lubricants, gumfluxing agents, thickening agents, dyes, corrosion inhibitors, stabilizers, and gum inhibitors. The fuel base may comprise hydrocarbons of good anti-knock properties, such as alkylated benzenes or isoparaffins. Specification 339,637, [Class 91], is referred to.
